Interpretation Services in Indonesia

Interpretation for conferences, government meetings and exhibitions across Indonesia

Maven provides interpretation services in Indonesia from its Jakarta office, opened in 2026, covering international conferences, government meetings, trade exhibitions, corporate events, training sessions, research fieldwork and site visits across the archipelago. Assignments can run on-site, online or in a hybrid format, and equipment and technical support are available for simultaneous interpretation.

Across the country Maven covers Jakarta and Greater Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta, West Java, East Java, the Riau Islands, Sumatra, Sulawesi and the islands of Nusa Tenggara, and the Jakarta office also covers nearby countries such as Timor-Leste.

Where interpretation is required across Indonesia

  • Jakarta

Jakarta is where Maven's Indonesia office is based, and projects across the country are coordinated from there. Summits, ministerial meetings, ASEAN meetings and large trade exhibitions in Greater Jakarta account for the largest share of interpreter demand.

  • Bali

Nusa Dua, in the south of the island, is the government-designated resort and convention district, with two international convention centers. Bali hosts more international association meetings than any other Indonesian city.

  • Yogyakarta

Indonesia's third city for international association meetings, with more higher-education institutions than any other province. It hosted the ASEAN+3 Bond Market Forum in February 2026.

  • West Java

West Java drew more foreign direct investment than any other province in 2025. Bandung hosts international association meetings, and the province's industrial estates bring factory visits and supplier audits.

  • Surabaya and East Java

Tanjung Perak in Surabaya is the country's second-busiest port, and the city's convention halls host recurring international trade fairs.

  • Batam and the Riau Islands

Batam is a free trade zone and free port next to Singapore, with manufacturing and offshore and marine industries. The Indonesia Marine and Offshore Expo returns to Batam in August 2027.

  • Makassar and South Sulawesi

Makassar is the largest city in eastern Indonesia and the region's main air and sea hub. Maven has delivered interpretation projects there for NGO clients, and Buginese and Makassarese are the main local languages.

  • Central Sulawesi

The nickel industrial parks around Morowali are among the largest Chinese-led investments in Indonesia, and site visits and technical meetings there can call for Mandarin as well as Indonesian and English.

  • Lombok and Labuan Bajo

Mandalika on Lombok hosts the Indonesian MotoGP every year, and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara has hosted an ASEAN Summit. Equipment and interpreters travel to both, so lead time matters.

Languages across Indonesia

Indonesian is the state language, and Presidential Regulation 63 of 2019 requires officials to speak Indonesian at international forums held in Indonesia, while organizers provide translation between Indonesian and the languages of foreign participants. English carries most international work.

Indonesia has more than 700 regional languages, more than 400 of them in Papua, and about three in four Indonesians use a regional language at home. Javanese and Sundanese are the largest, followed by Madurese, Minangkabau, Banjarese, Buginese, Balinese and the Batak languages.

Arabic interpreters in Indonesia

Arabic interpreters in Indonesia are required for government and business meetings with Gulf partners, Islamic finance and halal industry forums, and religious and education events. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world and the largest Hajj quota, millions of students learn Arabic in madrasahs and pesantren, and a trade agreement with the UAE has been in force since 2023.

Indonesian interpreters in Indonesia

Indonesian interpreters in Indonesia are required whenever ministers and officials address an international audience, because they speak in Indonesian at forums held in the country, and when foreign speakers present to Indonesian delegations.

Mandarin is required for trade and investment meetings and for the Chinese-led industrial parks in Sulawesi, as investors from Hong Kong and China are among the largest in the country. Japanese and Korean are required for manufacturers in West Java and Banten. Fieldwork in the provinces calls for regional languages such as Buginese, Javanese, Makassarese or Sundanese, and humanitarian work involves Dari, Rohingya and Somali speakers.

Interpretation equipment and technical support across Indonesia

For interpretation equipment rental in Indonesia Maven supplies:

  • Soundproof booths
  • Interpreter consoles and headsets
  • Infrared or FM systems
  • Wireless receivers for delegates
  • Portable systems for tours and small rooms
  • Technicians on site

Maven does not keep its own equipment stock in Indonesia. Its role is the language side of the event: sourcing and coordinating qualified simultaneous interpreters and selecting the right team for each program.

Booths, consoles and receivers, known locally as an SIS (simultaneous interpretation system), come from reliable technical partners near the venue, whether the event is in Greater Jakarta, Nusa Dua, Yogyakarta or a site in Sulawesi. Maven coordinates the technicians with the interpreters from setup to the final session.

Microphones, projectors, screens and voting devices can be supplied with the interpretation system as one turnkey package, at market rates.

Questions about interpreters in Indonesia

Which interpretation formats do you offer?
In Indonesia Maven provides simultaneous interpretation for conferences, government meetings and exhibitions, and consecutive interpretation for site visits, audits, interviews and fieldwork. Each can run on-site, remotely or hybrid. Phone interpreter services cover short, urgent requests, and AI interpretation is available to clients who prefer it.
What types of clients do you work with in Indonesia?
Maven works mainly with UN agencies, governments, NGOs, intergovernmental organizations and international sports federations, as well as corporate clients. In Indonesia that means ministries and state agencies, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, research firms, investors and event organizers.
Which languages can you cover in Indonesia?
Simultaneous interpretation: English and Indonesian plus Arabic, French, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Mandarin, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese, with interpreters available locally. Other languages may need interpreters to travel. Consecutive interpretation covers the same core languages and many regional languages on-site, with more choice remotely. On-demand phone interpretation covers 350+ languages, including rare and endangered languages.
What information do you require to prepare estimates for conference interpretation in Indonesia?
An estimate needs the interpretation languages, event dates and daily hours, the venue (the city or island is enough), the format (on-site, hybrid or remote) and the subject matter. When equipment is required as well, the number of delegates using interpretation completes the picture.
Can you provide interpretation equipment as well as interpreters?
Yes. Booths, consoles, receivers, portable systems and technicians come through reliable technical partners near the venue, in Greater Jakarta, Bali and the other islands, and Maven coordinates them with the interpreter team. Microphones, projectors, screens and voting devices can be added as part of the same package.
What affects the cost of interpretation in Indonesia?
The cost reflects whether the work is simultaneous or consecutive, the languages, the number of days or hours, the delivery mode (on-site, remote or hybrid), the subject matter and any equipment. Travel and per diem charges may apply when interpretation is required outside Jakarta and Bali, for example in Lombok, Labuan Bajo or Sulawesi.
Do organizers have to provide interpretation at international forums in Indonesia?
Presidential Regulation 63 of 2019 requires Indonesian officials to speak Indonesian at international forums held in the country, and requires the organizer to provide translation between Indonesian and the languages of foreign participants. At live events this is normally done through simultaneous interpretation.
Do you cover events outside Jakarta and Bali?
Yes. Maven covers events and fieldwork across Indonesia, including Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Batam, Medan, Makassar, Lombok and Labuan Bajo, as well as nearby countries such as Timor-Leste. The Jakarta office plans the team, travel and equipment for each location.
How far ahead should we book?
Simultaneous interpreters typically need 20 to 40 days' notice or more, though this is not always possible. In peak seasons, with large exhibitions and summit weeks, some interpreters are booked six months ahead. Consecutive interpreters can often be confirmed at shorter notice.
How to book a conference interpreter in Indonesia?
Maven normally requires advance payment, full or partial, to confirm interpreters for a conference in Indonesia. Flexible terms can be offered to selected and regular clients and to the UN. The languages, dates and venue are enough to prepare a quotation.
